Wiesmann, the luxury sports car marque, has revealed additional technical details of its highly anticipated all-electric vehicle codenamed Project Thunderball – a vehicle that represents a return for the iconic brand with the world’s first electric convertible roadster.
Battery power
At the heart of the vehicle is one of the most energy and power-dense battery packs available, with a target range of 500km (310 miles). The 92kWh (83kWh available) Li-ion NMC “module-to-pack” technology is based on series modules with integrated pouch cells that weigh a very light 500kg.
The impressive battery capacity is unusually large for a roadster and more akin to that of a sedan or SUV. Installing this capability in a roadster bridges the gap between a pure short-trip leisure car and a serious weekend car. Furthermore, owners can forget about charging concerns thanks to its cutting-edge 800V high-voltage architecture, which enables ultra-rapid 300kW DC fast charging at a public charger or charging at home via its 22kW onboard charger. A standard Type-2 charging port with AC and DC charge ports is used for charging.
Wiesmann engineers designed a sophisticated thermal management system for the battery module to keep the battery performing at such a high level. The modules are cooled with a water-glycol mix via a custom-designed, flow-simulated, and optimized cooling plate, which transfers heat to the module’s base as quickly as possible.
A custom Battery Management System [BMS] has also been developed, allowing Wiesmann engineers to adjust, calibrate, and fine-tune the vehicle’s drivability to be optimized for all driving states and ambient conditions.

Regenerative braking system
Wiesmann’s goal with Project Thunderball is to give its sports car the emotion and immersive feel that many modern EVs lack. A unique Intelligent Regenerative Braking System has been specifically developed to create that incomparable driver-oriented Wiesmann experience and to implement their own idea of how an emotional EV drives.
The steering wheel-mounted paddles, with five setting levels available, allow instant adjustment of the car’s regenerative braking power, similar to shifting gears on an ICE car, so drivers are more involved.
In addition to providing driving pleasure, the driver can change the feel of the twin electric motors to provide a powerful engine braking effect when going downhill or braking into corners, which recharges the battery to regain additional range and allows optimum use and minimal waste of energy.

Wiesmann is back!
Roheen Berry, CEO of Wiesmann “The continued development of Project Thunderball brings Wiesmann closer to his goal of producing the world’s most exciting electric sports car.” The roadster will combine our bespoke cutting-edge powertrain technology with Wiesmann’s trademark German engineering excellence, thanks to extensive research and testing. We are reintroducing emotion into electric vehicles. As a result, technology has played an important role in this project, resulting in a vehicle that not only has the stunning looks of a true Wiesmann, but also drives like a world-class sports car.
“I am equally pleased to report that we have received an enthusiastic response from customers.” We have 34 of the first year’s production slots reserved since opening the reservations list at the end of September, proving that they are just as excited about the new technology in Project Thunderball as we are.”
Project Thunderball will be built at Wiesmann’s ‘Gecko’ factory in Dülmen, Germany. Project Thunderball will be carefully crafted by many of the team members who helped grow this iconic German brand, the last truly independent European sports car marque remaining today, alongside some fresh new talent, using the most modern production technology while retaining Wiesmann’s reputation for bespoke German coachbuilding expertise of the highest order.
The all-new Project Thunderball will build on this legacy, with its classic luxurious interior and everything a driver could want in an electric sports car, presenting a one-of-a-kind package that will only appreciate in value over time and be passed down from generation to generation.
The reservation list for Project Thunderball is now open at www.wiesmann.com, with prices starting at 300,000 Euros.
