Unadulterated colour, textures and tactile experience is what the award-winning Gauteng based design principal at K INTERIORS – Karen Richards – promise to bring to the Johannesburg installation of Decorex.
The K INTERIORS/DEKAT stand took top honours for best use of shell scheme during last year’s Decorex where the bespoke agency started their trend of finding inspiration in iconic artists’ work with their highly acclaimed Pierneef-inspired stand. “We are thrilled to be partnering with DEKAT again – our brands are a perfect fit, striving for luxury for the discerning customer of today and,” says Karen.
Again partnering with the iconic DEKAT magazine, the stand will pay homage to the Iconic Mexican artist Frida Kahlo who’s self-portraits and other work inspired by Mexican pop culture and nature links seamlessly with K INTERIORS’ signature use of bold colours and prints, coupled with opulent textures.
“As a brand, I simply love what Frida personifies and have always been a fan of her enigmatic works – I feel that it fits perfectly what I wish to achieve as a designer – hyper personalised spaces that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional,” says Karen. “In Mexico, every colour goes with every colour and the adventure of disorder reigns supreme and I have found that home owners are desperately searching for the individualism those imperfections bring – it has become more and more about experiences and more about creating spaces based on how people want to feel, reflecting the inhabitants’ personalities.”
“The current trends in our industry are about anything but neutral tones – more is definitely more with colour usage and if it has ever been a time to push the boundaries of pattern and colour it is now. Couple this with the Mexican lifestyle that exudes passion, energy and vibrance we will strive to bring you an effervescent stand which will ooze with personality typically to our brand,” she continues.
Visitors to the stand can look forward to be transformed into the heart of Mexico, showing the old and new world but with a South African flair and interpretation. “The anchor of my stand will be our show-stopping chilli hot cranberry statement sofa and the beautiful wallpaper and fabric from our fabric partner, Hertex as well as a special Frida piece commissioned to the Peacock Art & Design team of Hendri Warricker and Riaan Bosch – we promise to be brave, edgy and filled with energy,” concludes Karen.
