Travelbags, South African Travel Women’s Club, held its annual Christmas lunch at the Indaba Hotel in Fourways, Sandton, last week. And what a jolly occasion it was, thanks to a great venue, food and entertainment by the Pulse dancers and singer Granville Michaels!
The exclusively male clubs that dominated the scene in the Fifties led to the formation of Travelbags in 1958 as a non-profit organisation for women in the travel industry. Constitutionally this has remained unchanged since inception.
Approximately 200 members benefit from monthly lunches, which provide excellent networking opportunities for women in the travel industry. These lunches also allow sponsors to market their products directly to the travel industry on a one-on-one basis. Monies raised at these lunches are donated to the sponsors’ choice of charity.
Today, Travelbags is one of the largest and liveliest clubs of its kind in South Africa, and its part affiliation to the International Federation of Women’s Travel Organisations (IFWTO) has put the club firmly on the map on an international level.
